In 200 Words: This One’s for the Birds
Globally, birds are facing more difficult times every year. Habitats and food-webs are being damaged, reduced and eliminated. Pressure on the species is increasing. The H5N1 strain of avian flu has devastated wild and domesticated bird populations everywhere except Australia.
The recent State of the World's Birds report, using research from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), stated that 49% of the Earth’s avian population are in decline. One in eight bird species are threatened by extinction.
The report went on to say, “The natural world is in trouble. Human actions are driving species rapidly towards extinction, undermining ecosystem functions and services vital to our own survival.”
There are 2.9 billion fewer birds in North America than in 1970. That’s a loss of 29%. Europe has lost approximately 600 million birds, or 19%.
Threats to the worldwide-avian population come in many forms. Climate change. Deforestation. Air, water and land pollution. An ongoing invasion of humans running roughshod over habitats. Birds, like every species on Earth, are in danger by the sixth mass extinction humanity is causing.
According to the American Bird Conservancy, in the U.S., cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds every year. It’s the impact of tens of millions of domestic outdoor and feral cats.
H5N1 avian flu has caused illness and deaths in cats and other mammals worldwide. The H5N1 virus is highly pathogenic among birds and is mutating. There are concerns that bird flu will make the necessary mutations to enable human-to-human transmission leading to a pandemic.

6/15/25: Wow! They should have got the motherfucker a pony or a bouncy house. Small gathering. Lots of empty bleachers. Plenty of standing room. Yeah, this guy won the election fair and square. After the parade ended the crowd couldn’t skedaddle fast enough. I thought there was a bomb threat or a fire. Turns out, there was. Attendees were fleeing a dumpster fire. The one that just paraded by. Trump was to speak. Thousands of people all left together, as if they were all carpooling and riding in the same car. The birthday boy was unhappy. Fucking pissed. Clearly, this was not the parade el presidente wanted. Trump spoke briefly and left. The disco ball didn’t drop. YMCA by the Village People, wasn’t played. Trump didn’t do that disturbing goddamn dance where it looks like he’s jerking off two dudes simultaneously. That’s when you know Trump is happy and having fun; he’s double jerking it, to YMCA. It didn’t happen. Poor little bitch. Hahahah. Next year, if the bastard lives that long, a pony or a bouncy house. That’s it. Way to blow $45 million. Possible fallout from a bad birthday party: Whiskey Pete loses his job. He, and everyone involved in the parade are deployed to Iran. Stay tuned.

6/14/25: Moscow (nope): Pyongyang (na uh): Washington, D.C.: Dear Leader Day. Cue military parade. Among the countless disturbing things, we, as a nation will witness today, will be Trump doing that goddamn dance where it looks like he’s jerking off two dudes simultaneously. LET’S PRETEND THAT’S NOT HAPPENING, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE THE SICK BASTARD DOES! (Seriously, incorporate this into your repertoire of dance moves. See where that gets you, Jack.) Nearly 2,000 “No Kings” protests are taking place nationwide. EVERYONE SHOULD DO THE DANCE. EVRYONE. SEND A CLEAR UNIFIED MESSAGE. Let’s see how many peaceful protesters are gassed, shot, beat down and arrested. The big question is after “No Kings” day where does it go from here? The intent? The energy? I think everyone should protest at the offices and homes of Republican lawmakers. Nonstop. Campout. Move in. The way Trump’s running things everyone will be unemployed and homeless. Nothing to do. No place to be. Time to get to know the people that made it all possible.
6/13/25: Friday the 13th. Unlucky. Superstitious nonsense. The day lost all of its scare. Israel bombed Iran, now the expected back and forth; markets are down; gas is up, and we’re only five fucking months in. That’s it! We’re only five fucking months in! Friday the 13th, you’ve lost that certain something that made you a bugaboo, lo, these many years. It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t have a chance. You’re amateur hour, now. Countless days of terror and calamity stretch out before us. Next up: Saturday the 14th and every day after. It’s a new day in Amerika. Unlucky. Superstitious. Feelin’ the vibe? Yeah, there it is.
6/12/25: Republican governors of Texas and Missouri have activated National Guard. Kabuki? Summer starts soon. Will we see National Guard sprouting up in Republican states to push around Democratically run cities? The National Guard are coming our way, and they aren’t deploying with FEMA. There are no riots. There is dissent. There are protests. The “No Kings” demonstrations are tomorrow. Will troops in the streets be the new normal? Remember when the National Guard were deployed with the government (FEMA) to assist, not arrest? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Same Day: Senator Padilla (D-CA), dragged from a room, forced to the floor, by federal agents, and cuffed at a DHS event for trying to ask a question. Facedown. Cuffed. He told them who he was, and they did it anyway. He was not arrested. This time, it was catch and release. There will be more of this.
6/11/25: Trump plans to phase out FEMA after the 2025 hurricane season. It’s a big fuck you, to predominantly Republican states that get hit by hurricanes and are in Tornado Alley. Same Day: Fort Bragg, North Carolina: Trump does his iconic dance where it looks like he’s jerking off two dudes simultaneously. The troops danced along with a guy who can’t legally own a gun but can tell them who they can shoot with their guns. They were handpicked. They looked RIGHT. They thought RIGHT. They cheered and booed like the partisans they were at all the RIGHT times during the speech. Of course, there was MAGA merch for sale on base; the hustle is always on. RIGHT. I wonder what city streets these troops will be deployed to in Amerika. Seriously, that goddamn dance is too fucking much! STOP PRETENDING LIKE YOU DON’T SEE THE DANCE. LOOK AT IT! 6/10/25: Los Angeles: 700 marines deploying. Trump orders 2,000 more National Guard to city. Trump’s talk and actions show his goal is to apply pressure, wanting ICE protests to turn into a riot. Republicans truly hate California, and L.A. tops their list of most hated cities.
Same Day: Trump threatens any potential protesters turning out on Saturday during the Army parade in Washington D.C. on his birthday, “…will be met with very big force.”
6/9/25: RFK Jr. fires CDC’s expert panel for vaccines. Replacements will be dumber than a box of goddamn rocks.
